The Hand of the Master Who Photographed the Nation
The career of the man we all call the "Father of Canadian photojournalism," Ted Grant, spans more than 60 years. He won awards for those iconic images of Pierre Trudeau sliding down the banister and Ben Johnson back when he was the fastest man on earth. But perhaps most importantly, Ted is a great person. I consider myself fortunate that Ted calls me a friend. A few weeks ago we went for lunch.
Yes, that is the finger that pressed the shutter on hundreds of thousands of images stored in the Canadian archives. I hope that at 86 years of age I am as vibrant a personality and still behind the camera. Thanks for the memories Ted.
Coming New Work
It has been an exciting and creative year, I am finishing principle shooting for Remnants, my large format portrayal of Vancouver Island, and preparing it for exhibition. I recently created 20 images on the theme of Testosterone based on images I made in Bodh Gaya India, and I began the edit of Port, a series of images of a small industrial town chasing a dream. In January, Silvia and I travel to southern India to hike across the southern tip from Chennai to Kochi.
